Davido, the renowned Afrobeats artist, recently opened up about why his billionaire father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, intervened in his first professional recording contract.

In a candid revelation, the ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ hitmaker shared that he had signed a deal with Black Diamond Promotions in 2011.

However, his father, recognizing the potential in his son’s music, decided to buy him out of the contract after Davido played him a snippet of the iconic ‘Dami Duro’ video.

Chief Adeleke’s decision was driven by a desire for his son to have complete control over his music, especially when it came to owning the masters.

This story surfaced when Davido’s former label boss, Tosin Ashafa, took to X (formerly Twitter) to reminisce about how he gave Davido his first official music deal and the reaction of Davido’s father.
