Los Angeles Archdiocese Reaches $880 Million Settlement in Clergy Abuse Case
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to pay $880 million to settle claims from 1,353 victims of clergy sexual abuse, marking the largest single payout by a Catholic archdiocese.
The settlement comes after decades of allegations against local priests. Archbishop José H.
Gomez expressed deep regret, hoping the compensation offers some healing.
This agreement pushes the total payouts by the archdiocese to over $1.5 billion.
The funds will come from archdiocesan assets, with contributions from religious orders also involved in the litigation.

“You Can Still Have Subsidy Without Long Queues” — Rufai Oseni Speaks On Subsidy
TV anchor Rufai Oseni makes headlines as he speaks on fuel subsidy in Nigeria. He shared that Nigeria can have fuel subsidy without the long queues at filling stations.
“When we were still paying subsidies, there were no long queues. We were subsidising. So you can still have a subsidy regime going on, and there will be no long queues because production was close by. Dangote had it. That’s just it. That argument also falls flat.
“The biggest beneficiaries of subsidy are not Nigerians. They are crony capitalists that have big infrastructure, and they do contracts. They have been the biggest beneficiaries of the subsidy,” he said.
