Ogun State to Hire 1,000 Teachers in Final Recruitment Phase

The Ogun State Government plans to hire 1,000 new teachers to fill vacancies in public schools. This move is part of ongoing efforts to improve education. The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, alongside other educational boards, will manage the recruitment.

Commissioner Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu stated that applicants must have an NCE or a bachelor’s degree in education. Those with different qualifications need a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education. The Teaching Experience Acquisition Channel (TEACH) program offers successful candidates two years of service in local government areas, with a monthly stipend. This final recruitment fulfills Governor Dapo Abiodun’s promise to hire 5,000 teaching interns, some of whom have already secured permanent positions.

Acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker and writer, Biyi Bandele, tragically took his life just a day after submitting a revised manuscript of his final novel, Yorùbá Boy Running, to his editor, Hannah Chukwu.

The 54-year-old, known for his adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Half of a Yellow Sun and the stage production of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, left behind a remarkable body of work.

His daughter, Temi Bandele, revealed that her father was content with his final project, believing it would spark important conversations after his passing.

His untimely death in August 2022 shocked the literary and film world, as he was remembered for his contributions to both industries.

Mob Kills Suspected Motorcycle Thief, Injures Accomplice in Ogun State

A suspected motorcycle thief, John Udoh, was beaten to death by a mob in Atoyo Okeigbo community, Ogun State, while his accomplice, Peter Ubong, sustained critical injuries.

The incident occurred in the early hours of October 18, 2024, after the suspects, part of a five-man gang, allegedly stole a motorcycle worth N1.2 million from Emeka Ruben.

While three other gang members escaped with the stolen bike, Udoh and Ubong were caught and beaten by locals. Police are investigating to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Seven Family Members Convicted for Robbery and Assault on In-law in Oyo

An Oyo Magistrate Court has convicted six members of the same family for robbing their in-law, Ajayi, after a strained relationship between him and his wife.

The convicts invaded Ajayi’s home, stealing N1.2 million, a TV, and other valuables.

The court found them guilty of conspiracy, theft, and assault, sentencing them to six months imprisonment or a fine of N25,000 each.

The seventh family member, a minor, was acquitted. The sentences will run concurrently.
