Amotekun Corps Arrests Ogun Man Over Staged Kidnapping to Escape N1 Million Debt

The Ogun State Amotekun Corps has arrested Enitan Awoyemi, a 41-year-old resident of Irolu-Remo, for allegedly staging his own kidnapping to avoid repaying a N1 million gambling debt.

According to Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), Awoyemi’s wife reported receiving a call from her husband, claiming he had been abducted and that his captors demanded a N5 million ransom.

Investigations revealed Awoyemi’s debt stemmed from gambling losses after a previous N6 million lottery win, which he spent on a Toyota Corolla and a motorcycle. Unable to repay his debts, he allegedly faked his kidnapping.

Awoyemi was tracked and arrested by Amotekun officers, along with the Vigilantes Group of Nigeria, at Irolu Okada Park. Officers noticed a strong insecticide odor on him, suggesting a possible suicide attempt. He was taken to Rufina Private Hospital for treatment and will be handed over to the police once discharged.

The Amotekun Commander praised community support in the arrest and urged vigilance, stressing the importance of public cooperation in ensuring safety and security in Ogun State.
