BRIT Awards 2025: Charli XCX Leads Nominations as Stars Gather at London

The 45th BRIT Awards are set to take place today, March 1, 2025, at London’s O2 Arena, with comedian Jack Whitehall returning as host for the fifth time.

The ceremony will be broadcast live at 8:15 PM GMT on ITV1 and ITVX for UK viewers, and international audiences can stream it on the BRITs’ official YouTube channel.

Leading the nominations this year is Charli XCX, who has gathered five nods, including British Album of the Year for her latest release, BRAT, and British Artist of the Year. Close behind are Dua Lipa, The Last Dinner Party, and Ezra Collective, each securing four nominations.

A notable highlight of this year’s nominations is The Beatles receiving their first nod since 1983, recognized in the Song of the Year category for their track “Now and Then.”

Additionally, The Cure has made a comeback with three nominations, including British Album of the Year for Songs of a Lost World, their first album in 16 years.

Artists set to take the stage include JADE, Myles Smith, Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims, The Last Dinner Party, Sam Fender, and Lola Young.

Notably, Shaboozey, initially slated to perform, had to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances and was promptly replaced by Ezra Collective and Jorja Smith.

Popular Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD reveals why he dislikes the description “legend”.

In his recent appearance on Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, the actor stated that he thinks being called a legend is a scam.

“I think the legend of a thing is a scam, I have my legends like Uncle Pete and Uncle Olu Jacobs; these are our ancestors and legends.

“I have been watching him (Olu Jacobs) when he was saying Ribena children are the healthy children. So I don’t subscribe to being called legend and when they call me that I feel they are trying to relegate me to neighbourhood of retired people or those nearing retirement.”

Speaking on a podcast the singer revealed these thoughts and sparked another debate amongst fans online.

Right now, Ghana is a better team [than Nigeria’s Super Eagles]. Individually, we [Nigerians] are better. But as a team, Ghana is better.

“For some reason, we have not been able to combine the brilliance of each player to form a solid team. I think it will take time. We have a lot of talents but we have not been able to utilise them.”

Tunde Onakoya Aims to Break World Record for Longest Chess Marathon

Nigerian Chess Player Tunde Onakoya sets himself in preparation for a challenge to break the world record for the longest chess marathon.

The chess player aims to reach 70 hours in New York City, from the 17th of April to 20th. The last score noted for the world break is 61 hours.

Onakoya will partner up with U.S. National Chess Master Shawn Martinez to break the world record.

He then speaks on his goal after breaking the world record “My goal is to inspire the world and secure resources to create a massive, tuition-free school for Nigeria’s homeless kids.”
