Chelsea’s Osimhen Deal Collapses Over Salary

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca explained the club’s last-minute decision to abandon their pursuit of Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, on transfer deadline day. Although Chelsea had been searching for a striker all summer, serious negotiations with Osimhen only began in the final days of the window, leaving too little time to finalize a deal.

Maresca emphasized that the club is selective about signings, stating they must meet Chelsea’s conditions. He remained non-committal about revisiting the Osimhen situation in January, preferring to focus on the immediate future.

The talks reportedly broke down due to Chelsea’s salary offer, which was significantly lower than Osimhen’s current earnings at Napoli. While the striker earns over €10 million annually in Italy, Chelsea’s offer included only €4 million guaranteed, with up to €4 million in bonuses. This was far less than Osimhen’s current salary, and the deal fell through.
