Nanny Awarded £2 Million After Being Secretly Recorded by Boss
A live-in nanny, Kelly Andrade, has been awarded £2 million after her employer, Michael Esposito, secretly filmed her using a hidden camera in a smoke detector.
Andrade, 25, sued Esposito, 35, after discovering the camera while living with his family in Staten Island, New York.
The father-of-four was arrested after Andrade claimed he attempted to force his way into her room upon realizing she found the device, which contained “hundreds” of clips.
A Manhattan jury awarded Andrade $780,000 for emotional distress and $2 million in punitive damages against Esposito.
Although he was taken into custody on suspicion of illegal surveillance, he was released on probation and required to attend counseling.
Andrade’s attorney criticized the punishment as inadequate. Speaking to the New York Post, Andrade expressed her anger and frustration, stating the damage inflicted upon her was “irreversible.”
