Ekiti Governor Awards N1 Million to Two Disability Teachers
On October 6, 2024, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji celebrated Teachers’ Day by honoring two remarkable educators dedicated to teaching students with disabilities.
Each teacher received a cash award of 500,000 naira, highlighting the governor’s commitment to acknowledging the vital role of these educators in fostering inclusive education.
The event took place during a lively celebration in the state, where the achievements of educators were showcased.
Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, praised Governor Oyebanji for his unwavering support for inclusivity in education.
She noted that this recognition serves as a significant morale booster for teachers in the disability sector.
Agboola remarked that this was the first time such awards were presented during the Teachers’ Day celebration in Ekiti State, emphasizing the historic nature of the gesture.
“The recognition of these dedicated teachers who tirelessly work with children with disabilities reflects Governor Oyebanji’s strong commitment to promoting inclusivity in our educational system,” she stated.
She also acknowledged the challenges faced by these educators over the past year.
They have had to adapt to new teaching methods, manage increased documentation, and prepare rigorously before delivering lessons.
Agboola emphasized that their hard work has paid off, as evidenced by today’s well-deserved honors, which recognize their unwavering dedication to their students.
Moreover, Agboola highlighted that these awards symbolize the acknowledgment of teachers’ voices within the disability community.
She reiterated the governor’s promise to support these educators and the broader community, ensuring that their needs and contributions are recognized.
The theme for this year’s Teachers’ Day celebration, “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” resonates deeply with the ongoing efforts to enhance the educational landscape in Ekiti State.
By honoring these educators, Governor Oyebanji not only highlights their commitment but also sets a precedent for valuing all teachers across various sectors.
