Ayra Starr Leads Nigerian Nominations at 2024 VMAs

Ayra Starr leads the Nigerian nominees with four nominations for Best New Artist, Best Afrobeats Act, Best African Act, and Best Push. In the Best New Artist category, she will compete against Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, LE SSERAFIM, Teddy Swims, The Last Dinner Party, and South African star Tyla.

Tyla is also a strong contender for the Best Afrobeats Act, nominated alongside Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Asake, and Ayra Starr. All eyes are on Tyla, who recently made headlines by stating that she represents Amapiano and does not make Afrobeats, despite winning the Best Afrobeats prize at the 2024 VMAs.
