Lebanese Man Gets 14 Years for Teen Exploitation
A Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced 67-year-old Lebanese national Zuhier R. Akar to 14 years in prison for sexually exploiting two teenage girls. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) charged Akar with trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Justice M. A. Shu’aibu determined that the prosecution successfully proved its case, resulting in the 14-year sentence without the option of a fine. Additionally, the court imposed a 2 million Naira fine on Akar. The prosecution, led by Kano Zonal Commander Mr. Abdullahi Babale, stated that the offences occurred on September 4, 2024, when Akar lured the 14- and 15-year-old girls to his home. A video of the incidents was later shared on social media.
The prosecution presented evidence, including Akar’s confession and testimonies from the victims. Akar pleaded guilty to the charges, which violated the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015. His defense attorney, Mr. R. A. Kasali, requested leniency from the court.
