Russell Martin: English Coaches Deserve More Opportunities
Southampton boss Russell Martin believes many English coaches are capable of managing the national team following the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as England’s new coach. Tuchel, a former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager, will take over from Gareth Southgate in January, making him the third foreign manager for England.
Gary Neville called Tuchel “the best available manager” but criticized the decision, highlighting issues within English coaching. Wayne Rooney expressed surprise at the choice, noting the FA’s strong platform for developing young coaches. Martin praised Tuchel but emphasized the lack of opportunities for homegrown managers. Leicester boss Steve Cooper and Everton’s Sean Dyche echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the challenges faced by English coaches in today’s football landscape.

The player is revealed to be Onyeka who he spoke about in the recent interview.
“He brings a different quality and probably a different profile to the midfield players we have.
“As I say, the profile is slightly different and I think that helps us in terms of the options and the competition in the middle of the park for us.”

“It’s a tough one because winning AFCON is like… It’s a great legacy, it’s a great thing to have in your career, a memorable moment. But then at the same time, because I’ve been to the World Cup already, a lot of the players haven’t been.”
