Obasanjo Urges Rich Nigerians to Support the Less Privileged
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo recently urged wealthy Nigerians to take action to help the impact of the ongoing economic hardships faced by less privileged citizens.
He made this appeal during the 25th edition of the Omo Olowu Day celebration, which took place at the Oba Odeleye Park in Oke-Sokori, Abeokuta.
Obasanjo emphasized the importance of community support, stating that affluent individuals have a crucial role in uplifting those struggling in these challenging times.
He believes that collective efforts can make a significant difference in improving the living conditions of many Nigerians.
During the event, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun echoed Obasanjo’s sentiments by highlighting the need for collaboration between his administration and the Owu Kingdom to boost sectors like agriculture, trade, and business.
This partnership aims to foster economic growth and achieve food security for the state.
Governor Abiodun expressed his commitment to enhancing Ogun State’s tourism potential, emphasizing that his administration is dedicated to developing the tourism sector as part of a broader strategy for social and infrastructural advancement.
He stated that a focus on grassroots development is essential and that the people must be central to the state’s future-building efforts.
The governor remarked, “This festival serves as a powerful reminder of our rich cultural heritage while reinforcing values such as communal harmony, love, and unity—principles that remain vital in today’s society.”
He mentioned how the state’s culture and traditions not only shape its identity but also inspire progress within communities.
Abiodun also acknowledged the remarkable achievements made by the state in recent years, showcasing how cultural festivals like Omo Olowu Day celebrate both heritage and progress.
He welcomed collaboration from individuals, businesses, and the private sector, urging them to join in the mission to promote cultural enrichment and economic development.
