The two talented musicians recently found themselves in the spotlight after both were nominated for the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Ultimately, Tyla took home the award, which sparked discussions online regarding their musical styles and achievements.

In her first public response to these comparisons, Ayra Starr spoke during an interview with BBC Radio 1 Xtra.

She emphasized that the rivalry doesn’t affect her relationship with Tyla at all.

Instead, she affectionately referred to Tyla as her “home girl” and her “Gee,” showcasing a sense of friendship rather than competition.

Ayra expressed her thoughts on the matter, saying, “Tyla is my homegirl, that’s my Gee.

That doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t care about all of that. Less noise, more music.”

Her focus remains on collaboration and support rather than comparison, noting the need for unity among African artists.

She continued, stressing the importance of collaboration in the rapidly growing Afrobeats genre.

“Let’s support each other, like, why not? Afrobeats and African music are about to take over the world, and we have to come together to make that happen.

There’s no need for comparisons.”
