The convicted women—Basirat Olarigbibe, Fatima Garuba, Amudalat Adekunle, Oloye Arafat Awele, and Ademola Bola—were apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Seme Border on August 21, 2024, with various amounts of the substance in their possession.
Prosecutor Andover G. Yuanyam presented evidence, while defense lawyer Oke Ojakovo requested leniency, citing the women’s status as first-time offenders and the challenging family circumstances of some. Justice Aneke confirmed their status and ordered that sentences run concurrently, with the alternative fine and community service in lieu of jail time.
