Activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has issued an apology to the Nigeria Police Force following backlash over a recent video where he appeared in what looked like a police uniform.

In the video, Otse introduced himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) from a fictitious “Online Division,” which stirred up reactions online and prompted a swift response from the police.

The Nigeria Police Force reacted by denouncing Otse’s attire, which they argued was unauthorized and disrespectful, and announced an investigation into the matter.

They highlighted concerns about the misuse of official symbols, even if intended for harmless purposes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining respect for law enforcement identity.

In response, VeryDarkMan released an apology video on Thursday, explaining that he hadn’t intended to impersonate a police officer.

He acknowledged that the costume he wore bore a strong resemblance to the official uniform, leading to misunderstandings.

He disclosed that he had been to the police station, where officers questioned him about the video.

He said he understood their concerns and issued a sincere apology to the police force, especially to the office of the Inspector General of Police.

Reflecting on his experience, Otse took the opportunity to caution his followers and Nigerians in general about the potential consequences of wearing attire that resembles official uniforms.

He advised anyone considering it to obtain prior authorization from law enforcement agencies to avoid possible legal issues.
