Zelensky Claims North Korean Troops Fighting in Russia’s Kursk Region, Warns of Escalation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that North Korean troops have been deployed to Russia’s Kursk region and have engaged in combat with Ukrainian forces, resulting in casualties.

Speaking at the European Political Community summit in Budapest, Zelensky stated that approximately 11,000 North Korean soldiers are currently stationed in the region bordering Ukraine.

Zelensky highlighted concerns that, without additional international pressure, Russia may further involve North Korean forces in the ongoing conflict. “If we do not use appropriate weapons and political pressure on the Russian Federation, the next step may be much more use of the North Korean contingent,” he warned.

This development comes as reports suggest an intensifying partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang, prompting the United States and allies to weigh potential responses.
