“At This Club You Have to Win or You’re in Trouble” – Guardiola
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that his impressive track record with the club is the only reason he hasn’t been sacked despite their recent poor form.
Guardiola, who has won 18 trophies during his managerial career at City, including five Premier League titles, acknowledged that his past successes have bought him time during this challenging period.
City, known for their dominance in English and European football, are currently enduring their worst run under Guardiola.
The team has failed to win any of their last six matches across all competitions, a streak that includes five consecutive defeats and a single draw.
Speaking to reporters, Guardiola candidly addressed the speculation surrounding his job security.
“At a club like this, you have to win. If you don’t win, you’re in trouble,” he said.
“I understand people are asking why I haven’t been sacked yet.
The truth is, it’s because of what we’ve achieved over the last eight years.
The hierarchy and everyone at the club trust me because of our past success.”
Guardiola emphasized the pressures of managing a top club like Manchester City, where expectations are sky-high.
“It’s not common for a manager to survive a run like this in big clubs.
But I also know that the moment I feel I’m not contributing positively to the club, I’ll step aside.
Another manager will take over. That’s how it works in football,” he added.
The Spanish tactician, regarded as one of the greatest football managers of his generation, has revolutionized Manchester City’s style of play since joining in 2016.
Under his leadership, the club has set numerous records, including the highest points tally in a single Premier League season and an unprecedented domestic treble.
However, Guardiola admitted that the current situation is far from ideal and is determined to turn things around.
Despite the challenges, Guardiola reaffirmed his commitment to staying at the club and resolving the issues on the pitch.
“I want to be here. I want to fix this,” he said passionately.
“But I also understand the nature of football. Results matter, and if I can’t deliver, someone else will take my place.”
