Missouri Couple Charged with Child Abuse After Botched Home Circumcision
A Missouri couple, Tyler Wade Gibson and his wife, Bailey Alexus Gibson, have been charged with child abuse following a botched circumcision performed on a child at their home.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney, Tyler has been charged with child abuse and performing an unauthorized surgery. Bailey is also facing child abuse charges.
The affidavit reveals that on November 27, Tyler “knowingly performed a circumcision” on a child under 18 at their residence, resulting in significant physical injury. Tyler, who is not a licensed medical practitioner, reportedly used a utility tool for the procedure. He admitted to police that he had no formal medical training but had conducted research and prayed a blessing before attempting the surgery.
Following the botched procedure, the child was initially taken to Lake Regional Hospital and later transferred to Columbia University Hospital for further treatment. Police were notified by the hospital shortly after midnight on November 28.
Tyler reportedly left the hospital against medical advice, claiming he and Bailey grew tired of waiting after four hours. He admitted to police that he was unprepared for the amount of bleeding and decided to take the child to the hospital after the situation escalated.
Court documents also state that Bailey admitted to assisting Tyler during the procedure.
Tyler appeared in court on December 3, while Bailey is scheduled for a court appearance on January 28, 2025. Both face serious charges as authorities continue to investigate the incident.
