Kano Government Accuses Federal Government of Palace Blockade

The Kano State Government has accused the Federal Government of being behind the blockade of the Kano Emir’s palace on Friday, December 6.

Armed police and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives were reported to have sealed off the palace entrance, creating tension in the area.

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II was set to speak to economists about the tax reform bills in the National Assembly and accompany the new district head, Munir Sanusi, to Bichi. Despite the blockade, the emir held court in the outer palace and led congregational prayers at the Kano Central Mosque.

Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, Secretary to the State Government, expressed frustration, stating on local radio that the move was unexpected and attributed it to the Federal Government. “We woke up to find police sealing the entrance to the palace.

Kano is peaceful, but a few individuals with support from Abuja are trying to disrupt that peace,” Bichi said. He emphasized that the emir’s plans, including escorting the district head, would proceed without interference.

Bichi reinforced the state’s commitment to peace, asserting that no one would destabilize Kano.
