“Chelsea Can’t Win the Premier League with Their Current Defense” – Carragher Claims

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has expressed doubts about Chelsea’s ability to win the Premier League title this season, pointing to key defensive weaknesses as a major factor.

Despite their impressive attacking record, Carragher believes the Blues will fall short due to their lack of an elite goalkeeper and top-tier centre-backs.

Chelsea, currently four points behind league leaders Liverpool, have shown attacking firepower in recent matches, including a thrilling 4-3 victory over Tottenham on Sunday.

In that game, Cole Palmer scored twice from the penalty spot, with Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernandez also finding the net.

With 35 goals in 15 matches, Chelsea boasts the best attacking record in the league, outscoring every other team.

However, Carragher noted that Chelsea’s defensive vulnerabilities could prevent them from securing the title.

The Blues have conceded 18 goals so far, an average of more than a goal per game.

No team has won the Premier League title while conceding more than a goal per game since Manchester United did so in the 2012-13 season, and Carragher believes this stat shows the importance of a solid defense in the pursuit of the title.

The game against Spurs saw goalkeeper Robert Sanchez return to the starting lineup, playing behind a centre-back pairing of Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill.

While the team’s attacking prowess is undeniable, Carragher remains unconvinced by their defensive setup.

He told Sky Sports, “I still look at the goalkeeper and two centre-backs, and I just think I can’t see anyone winning the Premier League with that goalkeeper and without a standout centre-back.”

Carragher went on to mention the importance of having a strong defensive backbone in a title-winning team, comparing Chelsea’s current defensive setup to other Premier League title winners.

He pointed out how Manchester City’s success has been built on the strength of Ederson in goal and Ruben Dias in central defense, while Liverpool’s dominance has been underpinned by Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

Carragher also referenced Chelsea’s previous title-winning sides, which boasted world-class defenders like Petr Cech and John Terry, who were crucial to their success.

“When you think of the top teams that have won the Premier League, they all had those key defensive players,” Carragher continued.

“Chelsea are still a little short in those areas, and until they strengthen defensively, I don’t think they can challenge for the title.”

Mbappe Breaks Di Stéfano’s 71-Year-Old Real Madrid Goal Record

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has shattered a 71-year-old club record held by Alfredo Di Stéfano. On Wednesday, Mbappe scored his 28th LaLiga goal of the season in just his 32nd league game, setting a new record for the most goals scored by a Real Madrid player in their debut league season. Di Stéfano’s record of 27 goals from the 1953-54 season finally fell, but Mbappe still has two games left to extend his tally.

The match itself was a tense battle. Real Madrid needed an injury-time goal to snatch a 2-1 victory over Mallorca and keep their hopes alive in the title race. After going behind early to a Martin Valjent strike, Mbappe pulled one back in the 68th minute, and Jacobo Ramon sealed the win deep into stoppage time.

This win is crucial for Carlo Ancelotti’s team after a damaging defeat to Barcelona last weekend, which left Real four points behind their rivals. Barcelona can clinch the league with a win in their local derby against Espanyol, but a draw or loss would keep the title race wide open heading into the final two matches.

Di Stéfano remains one of Real Madrid’s greatest scorers with 306 goals in 392 games, but only Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Raul have surpassed his total goals for the club. Now, Mbappe is making his mark among the legends.

He beat tough competition from fellow Nigerian Raphael Onyedika, DR Congo’s Noah Sadiki, Moroccan talent Zakaria El Ouahdi, and Promise David—who now represents Canada.

Reacting to the win, Arokodare said, “I’m very happy and honestly speechless. It’s a huge honour to be the sixth Nigerian to win this. It means a lot to be part of Belgian and Nigerian football history.”

Gary Neville Says Man United Must Sell at Least 10 Players to Fix the Team

Manchester United icon Gary Neville has urged the club to clear out at least ten players this summer if they want to fix their ongoing struggles. It’s been a dismal season for the Red Devils, especially in the Premier League, where they’re on track for their worst finish ever. With 17 losses already, it’s their most defeats in over five decades.

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville didn’t hold back, saying, “There are about eight to ten players who need to go. Three or four will leave as their contracts run out, but the club has to actively move out five or six more—even if it means paying them off.” He went on to describe United as a “graveyard” for new signings over the past ten years, with Bruno Fernandes being the rare exception.

United currently sit 16th in the league with two matches left, but they still have a shot at ending the season on a high when they face Tottenham in the Europa League final later this month.
