Dele Farotimi Sent Back to Jail as Bail Hearing is Postponed to December 20

Mr. Dele Farotimi, has been remanded in jail once again, following a decision by the court regarding his bail application.

This comes after the court adjourned the hearing for his bail request to December 20, 2024.

Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), took to his X handle to share the news, offering his support for Farotimi’s cause.

Sowore, a prominent activist himself, expressed his frustration, stating, Dele Farotimi has been sent back to prison for the next 10 days.

Farotimi, a well-known figure in Nigeria’s human rights community, appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Tuesday.

The session was scheduled to address his bail hearing, but the proceedings ended with the judge setting a later date for a ruling.

Farotimi’s arrival at the courthouse was marked by tight security, as he was escorted in a police security van and accompanied by correctional center officials.

Farotimi, who is known for his fierce defense of civil liberties and social justice, has often found himself at odds with the Nigerian government.
