Boko Haram insurgents have launched a devastating assault on a military base in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, leaving dozens of soldiers and vigilantes dead and seizing military weapons.

The attack, which happened on Saturday around 4 p.m., was confirmed by security and local sources on Monday.

According to reports, the insurgents, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked in large numbers, overwhelming the troops despite a strong defensive effort.

A security source described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks the base had faced, revealing that the insurgents not only killed many personnel but also looted all military equipment.

“The base has survived over 100 attacks in the past, but this was catastrophic.

The Lagos State Special Offences Court has rejected an application filed by Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, challenging the court’s authority to handle the fraud charges brought against him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is accusing Emefiele and his co-defendant, Henry Omoile, of misappropriating $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

In his ruling, Justice Rahman Oshodi confirmed the court’s jurisdiction to proceed with the case.

However, he dismissed four out of the 26 charges due to a lack of jurisdiction.

Addressing the territorial jurisdiction issue raised in some counts, the judge stated, “The objection to the court’s territorial jurisdiction over counts eight to 26 is dismissed.

The chairman of NATPAN, Rabiu Zuntu stated on Tuesday that the government inference will cut down the post-harvest losses.

“Most farmers cannot afford loans for this equipment to aid reduction of post-harvest losses because they are smallholder farmers. The government can help tomato farmers reduce post-harvest losses by coming to their aid with interventions.”

“With the use of plastic crates for the transportation of tomatoes from one part of Nigeria to the other, the rate of post-harvest losses will be reduced.”
