The Lagos State Special Offences Court has rejected an application filed by Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, challenging the court’s authority to handle the fraud charges brought against him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is accusing Emefiele and his co-defendant, Henry Omoile, of misappropriating $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

In his ruling, Justice Rahman Oshodi confirmed the court’s jurisdiction to proceed with the case.

However, he dismissed four out of the 26 charges due to a lack of jurisdiction.

Addressing the territorial jurisdiction issue raised in some counts, the judge stated, “The objection to the court’s territorial jurisdiction over counts eight to 26 is dismissed.
