Former Chelsea star William Gallas has singled out Liverpool as having the strongest defence in the Premier League this season.

Gallas credits Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk for mentoring Ibrahima Konaté.

Speaking to Prime Casino, the former defender praised van Dijk’s leadership, calling him the backbone of Liverpool’s defensive success.

“Van Dijk has elevated Konaté to a whole new level, and Liverpool is reaping the rewards with a rock-solid defence,” Gallas said.

“Even as captain, van Dijk remains the defensive boss, directing the backline with authority. Konaté, in turn, has grown tremendously by observing and learning from him.”

Gallas believes Konaté is being groomed to take over once van Dijk eventually departs.

“When van Dijk moves on, it will be Konaté’s turn to lead and mentor the next player in line,” Gallas added. “That is the mark of a great defence—building a legacy of leadership and strength.”
