Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has made an unusual claim about the way Nigerians view their politicians.

Sowore argued that the public’s trust in politicians has now become linked to their physical appearance, particularly the size of their stomachs.

According to Sowore, Nigerians no longer trust politicians with flat stomachs, citing the poor performance of former president Muhammadu Buhari as the reason.

He explained that Buhari’s flat tummy became a symbol of his leadership style, which many viewed as ineffective. Sowore even mentioned that this shift in perception influenced his own decision to adopt a more protruding belly.

In an interview on the ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’ show, hosted by content creator Bae U Barbie, Sowore explained, “I used to have a flat tummy up until 2018. But I realized that people with flat tummies are no longer trusted.

The way Buhari used his flat tummy to deceive Nigerians made me decide to start growing my tummy. It’s getting there.”

“It looks like Nigerians aren’t going to vote for anyone with a flat tummy anytime soon,” he added.

According to him “In Nigeria we have two governments. One is collecting tax, the other one is collecting ransom. Both of them have one thing in common which is to make life difficult for their people.

The one that is collecting tax without doing anything will come and share you rice and semolina. The one that is collecting ransom is doing giveaway on social media.”
