Wike Says He Won’t Support Bala Mohammed’s 2027 Presidential Bid
On Sunday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, fired back at Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, declaring that he would not allow the governor’s presidential aspirations to take off, calling them “dead on arrival.”
Wike, who has long been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, emphasized that he wasn’t the first, nor would he be the last, member of an opposition party to serve in the government.
A statement from Wike’s media assistant, Lere Olayinka, added more context to the disagreement. It pointed out that Wike’s appointment as a minister was an excuse for Governor Mohammed’s inability to lead the PDP Governors’ Forum, suggesting that the Bauchi governor’s leadership skills were lacking.
Olayinka also noted that despite his current position, Wike was not the first opposition member to join the ruling party.
The statement questioned the actions of Mohammed, who, according to Wike, had previously defected from the ANPP (All Nigeria Peoples Party) to the PDP after initially being elected as a senator.
