“Canadian Football Raised Me So I Owe It to Them” – Promise David
Union Saint-Gilloise striker Promise David has explained why he chose to switch his international allegiance from Nigeria to Canada.
Born in Canada to Nigerian parents, David previously represented Nigeria twice at the U-23 level. However, he has now applied to play for Canada at the senior international level.
Speaking to The Athletic, the former FC Tulsa forward shared his reason for the decision.
“Canadian football raised me, so I feel like I owe it to Canada to represent them,” he said.
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has revealed the three football icons he admires the most—Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar. In a chat with media personality Daddy Freeze, Osimhen said his respect for the trio runs so deep that he wouldn’t mind losing badly just to share the pitch with them.
“I’ve always told my friends that if I ever get to play against Messi, Ronaldo, or Neymar, I’ll take a picture with them no matter what,” he said. “Even if my team loses 10-0, I really don’t care.” The Napoli striker, who recently wrapped up a loan spell with Galatasaray, is currently on break and expected to make a decision about his future club soon.
Lionel Messi has opened up about his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, making it clear they’re not close friends, but there’s mutual respect between them. Speaking in an interview with DSsports, Messi explained that their rivalry was strictly professional—just two top players giving their all for their teams.
The pair once stood on opposite sides of football’s biggest stage, with Messi shining at Barcelona and Ronaldo at Real Madrid. Now, their careers have taken different paths—Ronaldo playing for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia and Messi with Inter Miami in the MLS.
“Our rivalry stayed on the pitch,” Messi said. “We never took it personal. Off the field, we’re just two regular guys. We don’t hang out or talk much, but there’s always been respect.”

Ten minutes into the second half, he curled a free-kick beautifully into the net from the edge of the box, sealing the comeback and marking his 50th goal for the club in style.
