John Lithgow Set to Play Dumbledore in HBO’s Upcoming Harry Potter TV Series
Veteran actor John Lithgow has officially announced that he will portray Professor Albus Dumbledore in HBO’s forthcoming “Harry Potter” television series.
This series aims to adapt each of J.K. Rowling’s seven books into individual seasons, with the premiere slated for 2026.
Lithgow, 79, shared his enthusiasm and surprise upon receiving the offer during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival.
He acknowledged the significant commitment this role entails, humorously noting that he would be approximately 87 years old by the time the series concludes.
In response to the casting news, HBO released a statement emphasizing that while they are aware of the speculation surrounding the series, official confirmations will only be made once all agreements are finalized.
This suggests that while Lithgow’s involvement is highly probable, formal contracts may still be in the negotiation phase.
