Madrid Told Me Not to Go – Vinicius on Ballon d’Or Absence
Vinicius Junior has revealed that Real Madrid instructed him not to attend last year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.
The Brazilian winger was seen as a strong contender for the award, with many backing him to beat Manchester City’s Rodri. But just before the event, Madrid reportedly pulled back on their plans after it was leaked that Rodri would be named the best player in the world.
Even Carlo Ancelotti, who won Manager of the Year, didn’t show up at the ceremony.
Speaking on the issue, Vinicius said, “There are people who vote, and that’s it. I’ll have more chances to win awards and titles with this club. The club told me not to go to the gala and stay in Madrid, so I did.”
