Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sequel Delayed Until 2027

Published

Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will have to wait a bit longer for the next movie. The sequel to the popular 2023 animated film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, has been delayed. It was originally set to come out on October 9, 2026, but now the release date has been pushed back to September 17, 2027.

The delay is mainly due to hold-ups in the animation production process. While this is disappointing, it’s a common challenge when making high-quality animated films. The studio behind the movie, Paramount Pictures, has also shifted other big releases around the same time, including The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, which moved from early 2026 to late 2026.

Jeff Rowe, who directed the first Mutant Mayhem, is coming back to lead this sequel. He’ll be joined by co-directors Kyler Spears and Yashar Kassai. The story is expected to focus more on the villain Shredder, who made a dramatic appearance at the end of the first movie. Rowe described the sequel as a “villain-forward” story, promising a darker and more intense look at the Turtles’ greatest enemy.

The voice cast from the first movie will also return, including Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon as the four Ninja Turtles.

The production team includes Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who are once again producing the film through their company, Point Grey Pictures.

To keep fans entertained while they wait, Paramount has launched Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, an animated series that connects the first movie with the upcoming sequel. The first season premiered on Paramount+ in August 2024, with a second season expected later this year.

Though the wait is longer than anyone hoped, this delay shows that the studio is focused on making sure the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film meets the high standards fans expect. Until then, viewers can enjoy the adventures in the Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series as they count down the months until the Turtles’ return to theaters in 2027.
