Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick is confident that Kelechi Iheanacho will find the net more often after scoring his first goal for the club.

The Nigerian forward got off the mark in Boro’s 3-1 win over Oxford United at the Riverside Stadium, putting his side ahead in the 48th minute.

Carrick expressed his delight over Iheanacho’s impact, saying the striker’s confidence will only grow from here.

“He’s happy, and we’re all happy for him,” Carrick said. “Kel has played at a high level, and scoring goals always lifts a player. I was never worried—I knew he would score, and I’m sure there’s more to come. That goal was massive for us.”

Iheanacho joined Middlesbrough on loan from Sevilla in January and will be looking to build on this performance.
