Drake Blames Super Bowl and Grammys for Boosting Kendrick’s Diss Track

Drake is taking his legal fight with Universal Music Group (UMG) to a new level, now citing Kendrick Lamar’s recent wins and major performances as further damage to his name.

In new court documents filed in New York, Drake’s legal team argues that Lamar’s Grammy wins and Super Bowl halftime show gave more exposure to the diss track Not Like Us, which Drake claims defamed him. Both artists are signed under different UMG labels and were locked in a fiery rap battle throughout 2024, with Lamar dominating the charts.

Drake first sued UMG in January, accusing them of backing a “false and harmful narrative” by promoting Lamar’s viral diss, which included heavy accusations like calling Drake a “certified pedophile” and a “predator” who should be monitored in neighborhoods.

UMG responded by asking the court to throw out the case, calling it nothing more than an attempt by Drake to recover from a rap battle loss.

But in the updated filing, Drake’s lawyers say the diss track gained even more attention after Lamar performed at the Grammys and Super Bowl, two massive cultural moments. They claim the exposure didn’t just boost streams of the song — it also increased threats against Drake and his family.

Though Lamar avoided using the word “pedophile” during his Super Bowl performance, the show was watched by over 133 million people, according to the Associated Press, adding even more fuel to the fire.
