Vinicius Equals Ronaldo’s Goals at Real Madrid and Says It’s a Dream Come True
Vinicius Jr. has hit a major career milestone by matching Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazário’s goal tally at Real Madrid. The 23-year-old forward netted his 104th goal for the club during their 2-1 loss to Valencia, drawing level with his idol.
Despite the disappointing result, Vinicius expressed pride in the personal achievement. Speaking after the game, he called it a special moment and reflected on the influence Ronaldo had on him when he first arrived at the club.
“It means a lot to me to reach the same number of goals as Ronaldo,” he said. “He was my role model when I joined Madrid as a kid. This was a tough match, but at Real Madrid, we never stop fighting.”
Earlier in January, Vinicius had mentioned that he was just a few goals shy of matching Ronaldo’s record. Now that he’s done it, he’s setting his sights even higher and hopes to keep scoring more for the club.
The defeat to Valencia, however, dealt a blow to Madrid’s title hopes, with the team needing to bounce back quickly in the coming fixtures.
Portugal’s team coach, Roberto Martinez, spoke about the recent match and shared his thoughts. He also addressed the fact that he did not substitute Cristiano Ronaldo.
The coach praised the player, stating that he believes there was no reason to take the star off the field.
“It made no sense at all to take off Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the best goalscorer in history, off the field when we were looking for goals.”
Popular footballer Ronaldo is getting questioned and facing pressure ahead of his upcoming match this Wednesday.
This may be because Messi played last night and scored a hat-trick, and many people are creating an internal rivalry between the two players to see how well Ronaldo will perform for Portugal tonight.
It can be noted that Ronaldo’s last hat-trick was against Spain in 2018.
The coach of Iran’s club described his team’s journey as the most oppressive in this World Cup. It can be noted that the country was announced to play against Los Angeles after their draw with New Zealand.
The coach shared that they had already planned to rest for a day for recovery before returning, but instead were told to leave immediately.
“After the game, they said to us, ‘You have to leave immediately. We’ve been asked to get on a plane and return to our camp in Tijuana, and we are really troubled by that.’
“They are forcing us to go back early. They are making the situation more and more difficult, more hurdles, but we’re not going to let that stop us from doing our best.”
