Sowore Says He Will Not Join Atiku and Peter Obi’s Coalition
Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the Take-it-Back Movement, has made it clear he wants nothing to do with the proposed alliance between former presidential hopefuls Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Politics Today, Sowore said he has no plans to align with the Social Democratic Party or any coalition that includes the usual political faces. He stressed that his focus remains on building a movement with ordinary Nigerians, not recycling failed alliances.
“I’m not joining any coalition,” he said. “The kind of coalition they formed in 2013 and 2015 gave us the APC, and now they want to repeat the same play in 2025. That’s not the path to real change.”
Sowore argued that partnering with the same political actors responsible for Nigeria’s problems would only harm the people further.
“The coalition we need is one made up of the oppressed. I will never join a group made up of those who helped destroy the country. I’m not interested in the SDP or in political games that toy with the future of Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, Atiku, Obi, and former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai have started talks aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Atiku spoke about the plan during a press conference hosted by a group of concerned political leaders and stakeholders.
He cautioned the current government against placing personal power above national interest, warning that ignoring the principles of democracy and federalism could push Nigeria into a dangerous political crisis.
The Chairman of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, Torseer Yina, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the ancient town.
The curfew takes effect from Thursday, October 8, 2026, following unrest and violent protests in the area.
According to reports, the action was taken to contain the unrest and violent protests by members of BEMOA following the death of one of its members by unknown gunmen.
The protest, which was reportedly hijacked by hoodlums, turned violent after an angry mob burnt two vehicles belonging to the Benue State Civil Protection Guards.
The Gboko council chairman said the curfew takes effect immediately and warned that anyone caught flouting the order or breaching public peace would be decisively dealt with.
Nine people have died in a fatal road crash along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash occurred on Monday at about 4:55pm around the Bethel area along the Ijebu-Ode/Ore axis of the expressway. It involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus belonging to Delta Line and a white Sino truck operated by Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), all nine people involved in the crash, comprising three males and six females, died in the incident.
The FRSC said the crash occurred while it was raining and the road was wet, with preliminary investigations identifying speed violation as the probable cause.
The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report, while the bodies of the victims were taken to the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, especially commercial drivers, to obey speed limits and exercise extra caution when driving in the rain.

“When we honour teachers, we honour the people who make every other profession possible.”
