Bisi Alimi Reflects on Overcoming Imposter Syndrome During Major Milestone

Published

on

Bisi Alimi, an influential gay rights advocate, recently took to social media to share his battle with imposter syndrome following his recognition at the Attitude Magazine Awards.

Alimi revealed that, in the lead-up to the event, he was plagued with feelings of self-doubt and unworthiness, questioning his right to be celebrated.

He described this emotional struggle as part of the “success downer” syndrome, where significant achievements are met with feelings of emptiness rather than joy.

To combat these negative thoughts, Alimi repeatedly reminded himself of the reasons he deserved the award and the importance of appreciating the moment.

Despite his fears of appearing insincere, he chose not to prepare a speech. Instead, he leaned on the support of his husband, who helped keep him grounded throughout the experience.
