According to the Civil Police, a group had been using online platforms to recruit people for a planned assault using homemade explosives. The attackers were reportedly hoping to gain fame on social media by carrying out the act. The concert, part of Gaga’s Mayhem tour, took place at the iconic Copacabana venue.

The pop star had shared her excitement about the show on Instagram last month, saying she was happy to return to Brazil after a past cancellation due to injury. She called it an honor to perform for her Brazilian fans, who she described as a big part of her journey.
