“Peter Obi Will Lose His Supporters if He Run as VP” – Tinubu’s Aide Warns
Daniel Bwala, media and policy adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has advised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to reject any offer to run as a vice presidential candidate in 2027. Bwala believes such a move would damage Obi’s political standing and alienate the strong support he enjoys, particularly from the youth-driven Obidient movement. He noted that Obi’s appeal is tied to his ambition to lead the country, not to play second fiddle.
Speaking during a Channels Television interview, Bwala said, “Peter Obi would be making the biggest mistake of his life by accepting to be anyone’s running mate. His supporters had only one deal with him – to run for president. If he abandons that, most of them will walk away.” He added that even Obi himself might not be comfortable playing a supporting role, given how far he has come on his own political journey.
Bwala also said defeating President Tinubu in 2027 would be nearly impossible, arguing that the President now has the advantage of incumbency and the political structure to rally support across party lines. He said more governors and lawmakers from other parties are aligning with Tinubu because, despite criticisms, people recognize that he’s working to unite the country and deliver results.
“To be honest, there’s no politician alive in Nigeria today with the kind of reach and political strength President Tinubu has,” Bwala said. “He may not be perfect, but he has both the heart and the head for leadership.”
The Chairman of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, Torseer Yina, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the ancient town.
The curfew takes effect from Thursday, October 8, 2026, following unrest and violent protests in the area.
According to reports, the action was taken to contain the unrest and violent protests by members of BEMOA following the death of one of its members by unknown gunmen.
The protest, which was reportedly hijacked by hoodlums, turned violent after an angry mob burnt two vehicles belonging to the Benue State Civil Protection Guards.
The Gboko council chairman said the curfew takes effect immediately and warned that anyone caught flouting the order or breaching public peace would be decisively dealt with.
Nine people have died in a fatal road crash along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash occurred on Monday at about 4:55pm around the Bethel area along the Ijebu-Ode/Ore axis of the expressway. It involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus belonging to Delta Line and a white Sino truck operated by Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), all nine people involved in the crash, comprising three males and six females, died in the incident.
The FRSC said the crash occurred while it was raining and the road was wet, with preliminary investigations identifying speed violation as the probable cause.
The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report, while the bodies of the victims were taken to the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, especially commercial drivers, to obey speed limits and exercise extra caution when driving in the rain.

“When we honour teachers, we honour the people who make every other profession possible.”
