Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Comeback Breaks Box Office Records Worldwide

After over a decade of silence, the Final Destination franchise has returned with a loud, bloody bang—and audiences can’t seem to get enough of it. Final Destination: Bloodlines, the sixth film in the iconic horror series, premiered on May 16, 2025, and it wasted no time climbing to the top of the box office. Within its first weekend alone, the movie raked in a staggering $51 million in the U.S. and matched that with another $51 million from international markets, pushing its global debut past the $100 million mark.
This isn’t just good news—it’s historic. Bloodlines has officially become the franchise’s most successful opening ever, surpassing the 2009 installment, The Final Destination. That’s a huge deal for a horror series that has been around for more than two decades and was at risk of fading into memory.
Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, Bloodlines isn’t just another rehash of the same formula. It takes fans back in time while introducing something new. The story centers around Stefanie, a college student haunted by intense nightmares. When she returns home, she begins to uncover the disturbing truth behind her family’s dark history, dating all the way back to 1968. That year, an eerie event tied to Death’s strange pattern kicked off a series of tragedies that continue to echo into the present.
One of the film’s standout moments is the return of Tony Todd, who reprises his role as William Bludworth.
Longtime fans will recognize him as the creepy, all-knowing mortician who’s been a major piece of the puzzle since the original film. In Bloodlines, he makes what’s expected to be his final appearance in the series—a farewell that’s both chilling and emotional.
Fans and critics alike have been giving the film plenty of praise. It currently holds a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earned a solid B+ score from moviegoers in CinemaScore polls. Most people are especially thrilled with how the film delivers the creatively brutal and jaw-dropping death scenes the series is known for, but with a fresh spin that doesn’t feel recycled.
A big part of the movie’s early success also comes from its marketing. The official trailer exploded online with nearly 179 million views in just 24 hours—second only to It (2017) in horror trailer history. That buzz clearly carried over into ticket sales. Still, Bloodlines isn’t in the clear just yet. It’s going head-to-head with other big releases soon, including Tom Cruise’s highly anticipated Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch. But with the momentum it has right now, there’s a good chance it’ll keep riding high.
