Mercy Johnson Open up on Weight Loss and Life After Cancer Scare and Surgery

Nollywood star Mercy Johnson-Okojie has opened up about her recent health struggles and the reason behind her noticeable weight loss. Her slimmer appearance had caused worry among fans online, leading to plenty of speculation. But in a heartfelt chat with fellow actress Joke Silva, Mercy revealed she had a cancer scare that led to thyroid surgery.
She shared that the experience was life-changing, especially since her youngest child was just six months old at the time. “It was a tough journey for us,” she said, referring to herself and her husband. “We had to accept that this was our new reality and go ahead with the surgery.”
Mercy explained that the surgery meant she would now be on medication for life. Doctors emphasized that missing a dose wasn’t an option, as the side effects could be serious. “So when people talk about my weight loss, I understand,” she added. “But this is my life now. I’m learning to live in this new space and grow from it.”
