Shchetinin Says He’s Sad He Didn’t Get to Play Against Osimhen in Match Against Super Eagles
Russia’s Mikhail Shchetinin has expressed disappointment over Victor Osimhen’s absence during their international friendly clash with Nigeria on Friday night. The Super Eagles played out a 1-1 draw against Russia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, but Osimhen, one of Nigeria’s key strikers, was not part of the squad.
Speaking after the match, Shchetinin admitted he had been looking forward to going up against the Napoli forward, who recently wrapped up a loan spell at Galatasaray. “It’s a bit of a letdown that some of their top players didn’t come,” he told Championat. “I really wanted to see Osimhen. It would’ve been an exciting challenge.”
He also praised the Nigerian team, mentioning Victor Boniface among the players who impressed him during the encounter. Sources say Osimhen was left out of the squad by coach Eric Chelle as the striker is currently focused on settling his next club move after his loan deal in Turkey ended.
