Al-Hilal Offers Huge Deal to Make Osimhen Highest-Paid African Footballer

Al-Hilal are stepping up their chase for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen with a massive new offer that could make him the highest-paid African footballer ever. Reports say the Saudi club has now put forward a deal worth around €50 million per year—excluding bonuses—hoping to finally land the Nigerian star. This comes after Osimhen previously turned down a €30 million annual deal, even though Al-Hilal had triggered his €75 million release clause.
The club had aimed to complete the transfer before the Club World Cup but couldn’t get it over the line. Still, their interest hasn’t faded, and insiders say they’re willing to go all in to bring him to Saudi Arabia. Currently, Riyad Mahrez holds the title of Africa’s highest-paid player, earning over €1 million weekly at Al-Ahli following his move from Manchester City. If Osimhen accepts the offer, that could soon change.

Oshoala Vows to Help Super Falcons Win WAFCON Title

Asisat Oshoala says she’s ready to help the Super Falcons reclaim their crown at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The Bay FC striker is set for her fifth appearance at the tournament, which will take place in Morocco. The 30-year-old already has three WAFCON titles to her name.
At the last edition, also held in Morocco, Oshoala only featured briefly due to injury as South Africa took the title from Nigeria. But now, after over a year away from the squad, she’s back and eager to make an impact.
Speaking to NFF TV, Oshoala shared her excitement about being part of the team again. “Scoring goals is what I love,” she said. “It’s been a while since I played with the national team because of personal things going on in my life. But anytime I’m here, I give my all to help the team get maximum points in every game.”
The Super Falcons will kick off their WAFCON 2024 campaign against Tunisia on Sunday in Casablanca. The tournament begins on Saturday, July 5, with hosts Morocco facing Zambia in Rabat, and it will run until July 26.

Liverpool Retire No.20 Shirt to Honour Diogo Jota After His Death in Car Crash

Liverpool have announced they will retire the number 20 shirt in honour of their late forward Diogo Jota. The club confirmed the decision on Thursday, saying the gesture is a lasting tribute to Jota’s impact at Anfield, especially his role in Liverpool’s Premier League triumph last season.
Jota, who passed away at 28 in a tragic car accident in Spain alongside his brother Andre Silva, played a crucial part in the Reds’ 2024–2025 title win, which marked their 20th league crown. One of his most memorable moments came in April, when his signature shimmy and finish secured victory in the Merseyside derby, the final goal of his career.
