The Full Story Behind Nicki Minaj and SZA’s Online Controversy

What started quietly online has now caused a loud and messy feud between two of the biggest names in music; Nicki Minaj and SZA. This started after Nicki called out TDE’s Punch, who used to manage SZA, accusing him of bullying her online because she rejected a business deal he proposed. That post alone had the internet spinning, but it was just the beginning.

Shortly after Nicki’s comments, SZA posted a cryptic tweet: “Mercury retrograde… don’t take the bait lol silly goose.” To many, it sounded like a subtle jab, and Nicki wasn’t having it at all.

Nicki Minaj responded throwing insult after insult, calling SZA names and tearing into her image. She said SZA looked like she got “stung by a bee,” and even added that if every SZA track disappeared, the music industry wouldn’t miss a beat. Nicki also criticized SZA’s decision to release a deluxe version of her album, painting it as a move driven by insecurity rather than strategy.

But SZA didn’t stay silent. She addressed the drama, saying she never meant the Mercury tweet for Nicki. Then she hit back with a shocking revelation saying she turned down two separate collaboration requests from Nicki. She even shared a screenshot to prove it. SZA went on to say that despite being constantly dragged online, she’s thriving. She reminded everyone that she’s selling out venues, making money, and more confident than ever.

The feud got messier when Nicki brought Drake into the picture. She claimed that the hit track “Rich Baby Daddy” was originally offered to her before SZA jumped on it. According to Nicki, she passed on it because she wanted to keep the song for her own project. Additionally, she mocked SZA for “twerking for Drake,” adding fuel to an already wild fire.

Then, things got historical. Nicki dug up old tweets from SZA’s early days; posts that seemed to shade Beyoncé, Madonna, and other big names that SZA now works with. Nicki questioned how someone who once talked down on those artists is now collaborating with them. She framed it as fake and insecure behavior.

At this point, both fanbases were deep in the trenches. The Barbz came out swinging, backing Nicki and accusing SZA of being shady and dishonest. Meanwhile, SZA’s fans rallied around her, saying Nicki overreacted and often finds herself at the center of unnecessary drama. Punch, whose comment kicked off the firestorm, later tweeted that he wasn’t referring to Nicki at all. But that didn’t matter, the damage was done, and the internet had already taken sides.

No official statements have been made by either artist’s team, but for now, things remain tense. Fans are watching closely, waiting to see whether this ends quietly or turns into another long-standing celebrity beef. Either way, the drama has already carved its place in the 2025 headlines.
