Nigerian music artist Ayra Starr says choosing Rihanna as her musical role model was one of the best decisions she’s ever made. In a recent chat with ETalk TV, the Nigerian singer shared how much she admires Rihanna, calling her a true inspiration and someone she’s proud to look up to.

She also opened up about the surreal moment she met the global superstar for the first time. What shocked her the most? Finding out that Rihanna is actually a fan of her music. “Meeting her still feels unreal,” Ayra said.

“She’s someone I’ve always loved and looked up to. People say you shouldn’t meet your idols, but I’m so happy I met mine. She’s amazing in every way, and the fact that she enjoys my music… I mean, I’m my favorite artist’s favorite artist. That means everything to me.”

She added that being around Rihanna often leaves her nervous and unsure of how to act, so she ends up cracking awkward jokes. Still, the moment left a lasting impact, and Ayra says she’s hopeful about collaborating with Rihanna someday.
