South Korean actor Jo Jung-suk is returning to the big screen this summer with a new twist on the zombie genre. His upcoming movie, “My Daughter Is a Zombie”, contains comedy, family love, and fantasy, and it’s officially set to hit theaters across South Korea on July 30, 2025.

The film is based on a popular Naver webtoon by Lee Yun-chang and tells the story of Jeong-hwan, a devoted single father played by Jo Jung-suk. His life takes a wild turn when his daughter, Soo-ah (played by rising young actress Choi Yoo-ri), turns into a zombie during a global outbreak. But unlike others, Soo-ah still shows small signs of her old self, she remembers things, reacts emotionally, and still wants to dance. Refusing to give up on her, Jeong-hwan takes her back to their countryside hometown to keep her safe and help her recover in his own way.

Alongside them is Jeong-hwan’s mother, played by veteran actress Lee Jung-eun. As the strict but warm-hearted grandma, she’s ready to do anything to help her granddaughter even if it means hitting her with a traditional back-scratcher when needed. Together, the family embarks on a mission to bring back Soo-ah’s humanity.

The cast also includes Cho Yeo-jeong, who plays Yeon-hwa; Jeong-hwan’s old flame. She strongly believes Soo-ah is no longer human, setting the stage for emotional tension and tough decisions. Other roles are filled by actors like Yoon Kyung-ho and Park Hyo-joo, while even a fluffy cat makes a surprise appearance that has already caught fans’ attention in trailers.

The film stands out for its creative mix of genres.

It has laugh-out-loud moments, heart-tugging scenes, and a unique approach to what it means to be a zombie. The trailer alone features Soo-ah quietly asking her dad, “Can you wait a little longer for me?” This simple line has already left viewers emotional.
