The Oyo Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and the arrest of twelve suspected troublemakers during a protest at Sumal Foods factories in Oluyole, Ibadan. According to spokesperson Adewale Osifeso, the protest was incited by false rumors about the company withholding palliatives meant for workers of various private firms.

Osifeso stated, “The violent protest, which occurred on Tuesday at Sumal Foods, was triggered by misleading information spread by some workers alleging unfair distribution of welfare packages.” He lamented that the protest was taken over by criminals who vandalized property, resulting in significant damage. Osifeso assured that peace has been restored in the area following increased police presence and the arrest of the suspects involved.

Commissioner of Police Ayodele Sonubi has directed the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the incident thoroughly under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
