Tinubu Arrives in Brazil for Two-Day Visit to Partner and Boost Nigeria’s Economy
President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Brasília, Brazil, for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economic ties with South America’s largest economy. His aircraft, Eagle One, touched down at Brasília International Airport in the early hours of Monday after a brief stopover in Los Angeles.
The President was warmly received by top Brazilian officials, Nigeria’s representatives, and members of his delegation before heading to his official engagements. According to the Presidency, this trip is more than a ceremonial exchange, it is seen as a turning point that could unlock fresh opportunities in trade, agriculture, aviation, and investment.
During his stay, Tinubu is expected to meet with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Planalto Palace, where both leaders will sign agreements, hold talks with their respective teams, and address the media together. He will also engage with Brazil’s lawmakers, judiciary leaders, and participate in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum, a platform set up to connect business leaders from both countries.
The Presidency describes this visit as strategic, noting that Brazil and Nigeria share similarities as large, diverse nations with strong agricultural and industrial potential. Special Adviser on Media, Sunday Dare, explained that Brazil’s success in large-scale farming and livestock production offers lessons Nigeria can adapt to boost food security and create jobs.
One of the major highlights expected from the visit is the signing of a bilateral air services agreement to open direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil. This would shorten travel time, improve trade, and encourage tourism and cultural exchange. Another key focus is agriculture, with ongoing talks around mechanisation programmes and multi-billion-dollar investments that could create thousands of direct jobs and millions more along value chains.
