LAWMA, KAI Sustain Enforcement Against Illegal Traders in Lagos
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), in collaboration with the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), has continued its enforcement operations against illegal street trading and activities affecting public spaces across Lagos.
The latest operation was carried out at Costain Under Bridge and Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), where officials monitored previously cleared areas and dislodged traders attempting to return to road corridors and other unauthorised locations.
The operation forms part of efforts to keep major Lagos corridors clean, accessible and orderly, particularly areas with heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement.
LAWMA said it would continue working with relevant government agencies to address activities that undermine environmental standards and public order.
The Borno State Police Command has explained the arrest of five men who were reportedly found wearing T-shirts bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go.”
The police clarified that the suspects were not arrested simply because they were wearing the shirts, but were allegedly found in possession of suspected illegal drugs and other items. According to the police, the suspects were found with: 15 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 100 tablets suspected to be D5, One shisha pot, One pair of scissors & Two T-shirts bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go”
The command said the suspects were subjected to preliminary investigation before the case was taken to court.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that the Nigeria Police Force is a professional, non-partisan institution and does not discriminate against persons on the basis of political affiliation or viewpoint,” the statement read.
Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, famously known as RMD, has advised Nigerians to focus on providing solutions to the country’s problems rather than simply criticising them.
He advised that Nigerians can do more than criticise, as they can also contribute to solving problems and helping to improve the country.
RMD made the remarks at the 2026 Pivot Nigeria Conference in Lagos, themed “The Reputation Dividend: Who Pays for Nigeria’s Perception?”
“There are problems, but we need to fix them. Don’t stand and just criticise and propose no solution, Just remember who you are. You are an ambassador, not just for yourself, your parents or your school, but ultimately for your country,” he added.
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning for Nigeria, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, shared that the budget Nigeria currently has is too small for the population the country contains.
Speaking on the budget, he said “I would like to say that out of the top 10 most populous countries in the world, we have the smallest national budget.
“Should we continue with a budget that leaves our populace with one of the smallest budgets, or should we consider how we can mobilise more resources?”
