Toyin Abraham Faces Backlash Over Alleged Involvement in Social Media Arrest
Nollywood actress and producer Toyin Abraham has stirred controversy online after being accused of orchestrating the arrest of a social media user and his mother over defamation. During an Instagram live session, Abraham denied these claims, asserting that she had instead filed a petition against cyberbullies who had defamed her online. She explained that she felt compelled to take action due to persistent online bullying, particularly following her public support for President Bola Tinubu during the recent elections.
The incident has sparked a polarizing debate on social media, with some supporting Abraham’s stance against cyberbullying, while others criticize her for perceived censorship and intimidation tactics. This controversy has triggered broader discussions about the boundaries of free speech on social media and the responsibilities of public figures in safeguarding their reputations.
Amidst the backlash, social media users have taken various actions, from threatening to report Abraham’s Instagram page en masse to Netflix, to calling for a boycott of her movies on streaming platforms. Public figures like reality TV star Natacha Akide and comedian Adebowale Adedayo (Mr Macaroni) have weighed in, with Akide urging Nigerians to respect differing opinions and Mr Macaroni cautioning against the misuse of influence to circumvent legal processes.
Nigerian actor Tobi Makinde has reacted to rumours circulating about his relationship with Funke Akindele.
It can be noted that reports claimed the two were no longer on speaking terms and had grown apart.
However, the actor has dismissed the rumours, stating that nothing has changed between them and that social media is making assumptions.
“Nothing really happened between me and Madam Funke, and I am not aware of any fallout. Social media likes constructing their own script, and when they are done, they start looking for people to fill in the character they want.”
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared her views on faith and religion. She explained that her relationship with God is personal and not solely based on church attendance, but something she works on daily.
“I can only try to be as perfect as Jesus is. I am not there yet, but I’m trying my best. I have a very close relationship with God and the Holy Spirit, and it doesn’t come with me only being in church.”
She added “Everything that comes with religion can feel limiting. I have found a way that works for me, and I am fine with it for now.”
Popular rapper Cardi B has issued a strong warning to individuals who stole and used her credit card.
It can be noted that the rapper had earlier expressed her frustration on social media after discovering her card was stolen and used before it could be frozen.
She later revealed that the stores where the transactions occurred captured clear images of the suspects, and she intends to pursue justice.
“I got clear pictures of you all in Saks and in Apple. One thing about me is that I don’t play with my money. You all are going to jail,”.
