Tinubu Aide Accuses Peter Obi’s Supporters of Plotting Nationwide Chaos and Treason
Bayo Onanuga, a senior aide to President Bola Tinubu, has accused supporters of Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, of plotting to create chaos in Nigeria.
Onanuga suggested that Obi should be held accountable for any unrest resulting from these planned nationwide protests.
Onanuga’s allegations are that Obi’s supporters, whom he disparages as failed politicians, are the same group that was behind the destructive ENDSARS protests in October 2020.
He claims these supporters have joined forces with IPOB members to undermine the government, spreading hashtags like ‘EndBadGovernance’ and ‘Revolution2024’ to incite rebellion against President Tinubu’s administration.
He criticized the protesters as anarchists rather than democrats, accusing them of attempting a civilian coup due to their dissatisfaction with the 2023 election results. Onanuga warned that these actions could be interpreted as calls for treason.
Additionally, Onanuga pointed to various online figures and activities, such as an anonymous radio station and individuals like Babatunde Gbadamosi and General Oluchi, who are allegedly promoting these protests.
He argued that rather than creating disorder, citizens should wait for the next election in 2027 to address their grievances.
He emphasized that the Tinubu administration is taking steps to address economic challenges, including wage increases, loans for students, and agricultural investments.
Onanuga concluded that the government is working to improve the economy and should be given time to fulfill its mandate.
