Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has addressed Kenneth Okonkwo’s recent departure from the party and the Obidient Movement.

Okonkwo, who served as the spokesperson for Obi’s presidential campaign, announced his exit from both the Labour Party and the Obidient Movement, attributing his decision largely to Obi’s management of internal party issues.

In response to Okonkwo’s departure, Peter Obi’s spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, reached out to Obi for his comments. Obi expressed his disappointment over Okonkwo’s decision, emphasizing that he views Okonkwo not as a traitor but as a valued member of the movement.

Obi described Okonkwo as a “junior brother” who had diligently fulfilled his role during the campaign and continues to contribute to the cause of building a new Nigeria.

Obi clarified that while there are disagreements regarding styles and approaches to resolving issues, there is no personal animosity between himself and Okonkwo.

He stressed that Okonkwo’s past contributions should not be overshadowed by current differences and that Okonkwo cannot be considered a mole within the movement.

Tanko indicated that Obi’s sentiments were shared openly to assure the public that the parting of ways with Okonkwo was based on differing viewpoints rather than any personal conflict.
